DAEGU AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Members from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron freefall after jumping from the back of a 1st Special Operations Squadron MC-130H Combat Talon II here March 19. The high altitude, low opening jump training is in preparation for the group's annual operational readiness exercise which affords unit members an opportunity to practice wartime skills necessary for their ability to survive and operate. Pacific Air Commandos, Kadena Airmen recognized for ocean rescue
KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Col. David Mullins, the 353rd Special Operations Group Commander, pins an Air Force Commendation Medal on Maj. Jason Self, 320th Special Tactics Squadron, here Feb. 19 for his efforts during a September 2008 rescue mission on a ship in the Pacific Ocean. Maj. Self was one of two key planners who coordinated all mission-specific requirements to enable the combined rescue team and provided command and control by making time-sensitive decisions throughout the operation. perform a final equipment check before a high altitude, low opening jump from a 17th Special Operations Squadron MC-130P Combat Shadow here Nov. 5. The 17th lived up to its motto "No mission too demanding" on this flight by also supporting a static-line jump for Marines and Soldiers, aerial refueling HH-60 helicopters and providing a tactical familiarization flight for three Republic of Korea Air Force officers from the 255th Special Operations Squadron and Republic of Korea Air Force Operations Command. Staff Sgt. Harold Warr II, special tactics rigger and drop zone controller for personnel from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron, makes contact via portable radio with a 353rd Special Operations Group MC-130 pilot. As the DZ controller, Sergeant Warr communicates winds and clearance data from the DZ back to the pilot and jumpmaster. Sergeant Warr transmitted similar information from the water drop zone while aboard a Zodiac boat. The 320th STS members were participating in Cobra Gold 2006 at U-Taphao, Thailand.
